Hello January

How weird is that to read. As a 90s baby, I am having trouble believing that 2020 is already here. It feels like I have been stuck in 2012 for the last 8 years jamming out to ‘As Long as You Love Me’ by Justin Bieber and ‘Diamonds’ by Rihanna. By now, I am sure you know what apple music playlist runs in my Jeep during my road trips out of state.

We are finally getting snow in NW Ohio.I know most people hate the snow, but I absolutely love it. Goose does too!

Austin’s lease FINALLY ran out on his little Honda, so I decided that it was time to convert him… into a Jeep man! We are officially a Jeep family and what better place to start a Jeep family than in Toledo, OH: home of the Wrangler Jeep Plant. Austin chose a Jeep Cherokee and named it Chad, very fitting. Although, I still think Fiona the Sahara is way cooler (my personal Jeep obsession).

January is still young and I am sure there is more to come, but for now here is your update!

Oh Deer!

It seems as if the unbearably hot days have come and gone. Today it was so beautiful outside, I just couldn’t resist taking Goose to the park and skipping the gym. We went to Sidecut Metropark, which we seem to be visiting quite a bit latley!

For some reason it felt like we had the park all to ourselves for once, seeing only a few people during our hike. It was a peaceful 2.5 miles, listening to the birds chirp and the leaves that have recently begun to fall crunch as we walked. We were so quiet that we came across a doe about ten feet in front of us. Unfortunately, I was not quick enough to take a picture before the doe darted off. So we went on our way.

Not far up the trail, we ran into two more deer who seemed to be enjoying a little afternoon snack. They were kind enough to let us walk right on by. Surprisingly, Goose didn’t even bat an eye at them.

This lady even stuck her tongue out for the photo op!

And towards the end of our hike we ran into a little buck! The buck didn’t waist much time on us though, he was very busy and must have been late for a meeting or something like that because before we knew it, he was gone!

The Busy Little Buck

After the deer extravaganza, Goose and I took a nice 1.5 mile run to end the evening off on a strong note. I hoping for more nights like this to come! Who’s says that being healthy can’t be fun?!

workin on my fitness

Being healthy isn’t always easy, so I have set some ‘New state, New Fitness’ goals for myself sense we have moved!

Austin and I have joined a cross fit gym here in Ohio and so far so good. I have recently learned that even though the provided gym equipment can be nice to use, its not the only thing you can do to work out. To keep things interesting, we have been trying new workouts using tires, sledge hammers, sleds, rope, exercise balls, and kettlebells.

For more examples of some of the workouts we have been doing, check out my workout pins on pintrest!

The gym is not for everyone though, in fact, some days its not for me even! There are so many ways to be active and live a healthy life style, so here are a few more of my fitness routines that I have been working on.

I ran cross county for about 3 years while in middle school. So I thought to myself, that if I was able to run on a regular basis when I was younger, then what was stopping me from getting back out and running again? When in reality nothing was stopping me except for myself, and I have decided to change that. To hold myself accountable to this new running goal, I decided to sign Goose and I up for a 5K in October. We haven’t made it much farther than 1.5 miles yet, but we still have time. I haven’t given up hope yet!

And finally, my favorite way to stay active is hiking!

Oak Openings Metropark

Ohio just so happens to have some of the most amazing Metroparks available to everyone, for free, everyday! I will touch more on these parks a little later in the week. But I find hiking to be the most relaxing exercise that I am always able to do even on days that I don’t feel my best! And it makes me feel even better knowing that my dog was able to enjoy being outside with me!

August is here!

It has been a crazy first week of August for our family, so this might be more of a lengthy update!

We are officially Ohioans! Our address and state IDs have legally been changed, which is so weird to us, considering that neither Austin or I have ever lived anywhere but good Ol’ Indiana.

To start August off right, Austin fell over Goose (our goldendoodle) while playing outside and we ended up making a quick trip to Urgent Care. After a few x-rays and a ace bandage on his ankle, Austin was good as new, well kinda. He got lucky and it ended up being just a really bad sprain. We were worried with PA school starting next week for him, that it might have been something worse, so we had it checked out right away.

A few days later we made a trip back to Indianapolis, IN for a Jon Bellion concert. I had bought Austin tickets for this concert Christmas last year before we found out that we were moving away. We also had dinner at one of our favorite resturants in Fountain Square. It was Just the date we needed after feeling a little home sick for Indy.

We left Indiana as soon as the concert was over because we had let Goose stay overnight at his daycare for a sleepover and we had to pick him up early the next morning.

I had been studying all of last week for an EKG test required for my job in the Cath Lab and it had been taking up most of my weeknight time. It’s safe to say that this experience of ‘text book studying’ has reminded me why I did not go back to school after I graduated with my AS of Science in Radiography last year. Thank goodness that Miss. Honey was around to keep me company while I studied. I also started taking call at my new job, so I will most likely be much busier from here on out. (I love to pick up call!)

Honey is the best study buddy that anyone could ask for!

We realized a few days after picking Goose up from his overnight stay at daycare, that he might have rough housed with the other doggies just a little too much while he was there. Turns out that he had tore his Carpal paw pad in half (we looked it up and I guess it can be common in active dogs) and we have been cleaning it and wrapping it in coban every day, hoping that it heals up on its own.

Patient Information : Goose Sandlin, DOB 09/23/2017, MRN 317WOOF

Today, Austin and I went to the Jeep Festival in Toledo, OH. If you know me, you know that my love for Jeeps is real. Watching the Jeep parade was like a dream come true. Ironic that we moved to a city that has such a strong love for Jeeps too!

And that is all for our early August update, see ya next week!
